Spies Like Us It finally appears that we are to get a DVD Region 2 release of one of my favourite Chevy films, Spies Like Us. It is scheduled to hit UK stores on 28th August 2006 and will be accompanied by another first release in Region 2 format of Caddyshack 2.

I have now added a full review of Fletch at my movie tribute site skyjude - movie legends, so please visit to read the review, trivia, images etc (plus several other of my favourite movies).

Ellie Parker It seems to have by-passed the cinema's but the Naomi Watts starring Ellie Parker is due for Region 2 DVD release on 26th June 2006. Chevy Chase has a small cameo in the movie as agent to Ellie Parker. I'd love to tell you it's great but I've yet to see it so I'll take an educated guess at the following comment - It's an okay film and Chevy Chase has a superb cameo.

What I can guarantee is great is my new movie review web-site skyjude - movie legends. Please visit and let me know what you think - I will ensure that Fletch is covered on this site shortly too.

Hmmm. That's one heck of a long time since the last update - I am still here and will keep bringing Chevy news and updates in some form or other (more of this in the New Year but click here in the meantime). I think I've just been put off by the next scheduled review for Nothing But Trouble. Anyway, I had to get this update in before Christmas to wish you a very Merry one and hope it brings many festive showings of National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. Indeed since the recent UK region 2 DVD release of the Chevy Chase Vacation Collection means there really is no excuse for any of you not to own it now. This collection includes all four of the Vacation movies with the real treat being a Chevy Chase audio commentary for European Vacation. As for the superb Christmas outing then you must click here for a superb review I found on the Internet several years ago which is an absolute classic.
Merry Christmas! Kiss my ass! Kiss his ass! Happy Hannukah!
To catch up on other news:- The main story is that of Fletch Won, originally planned as a Kevin Smith project this has now been handed over and that would seem to end the chances of Jason Lee being involved. While my own favourite choice of Ryan Reynolds remains a possibility, the majority of rumours suggest Zach Braff and that would be no bad thing either. Let's just hope there is still a slot for a Chevy Chase cameo whether the movie remains faithful to the original movies or the novels themselves.

Not for the first time I must apologise for the lack of updates but on this occasion it has been far too long. As you will know by now the 'Big news' from Kevin Smith was not for Fletch Won but for The Green Hornet although we are again promised Fletch will follow...

There has been some DVD activity relating to Chevy and I'll update more next time and hopefully add a new DVD links section. For now though I thought you would enjoy the following e-mail I received a few months ago from director of The Groove Tube, Ken Shapiro. This was in direct response to my (less than flattering) review of his 'film' so here's my review followed directly by his response (typo's not corrected) - you'd think after 30 years he'd have let go by now...

Fletch UK Review:
"Oh dear. While Chevy Chase and the gang at SNL set new highs with the sketch show format this fails miserably at every level. Fortunately Chevy is barely in this at all and can't be blamed for this utter tripe. It seriously is very, very bad. While meant to be a political comment on USA at the time of it's release (1974) it still remains neither funny or acutely observed. The sketches are all way too long and any satirical impact they may have had is lost as they're all drawn out to the point of complete boredom. This is credited as Chevy's movie debut and I'm pleased to say that everything he did after this bettered it. Avoid even if curious."

Ken Shapiro:
"Chevy Chase and Lorne Michaels learned how to satirize television from me. Chevy was my puppy in college and Michaels (who saw The Groove Tube two years before its release) was working as a writer (who never has written anything) for me when he got the call for Sat Nite Li! ve. C CHase worshipped me, and The Groove Tube was worshipped by Michaels. It was the template for Kent Fried movie, Tunnelvision, Sat Nite Live, etc., etc. All preceeding facts would be coroborated by the persons mentioned. You should have seen them kissing my ass back in 1975. Now, Chevy Chase keeps showing up unannounced at my house and I had to finally tell him to "GET LOST." So, oh dear, HOW WRONG CAN YOU BE, DUMB BROWN-TOOTHED UNKNOWING BRIT?"

It's a classic - I love it! Rest assured I have replied but if you'd like to wind Ken up please let me know and I'll forward you're comments to him. In the meantime I'm off to clean my teeth...

22nd January 2004

Hello and a belated Happy New Year to you all. A few bits of info as we await the 'Big News' from Kevin Smith expected sometime this weekend (best to check out NewsAskew to see if it is to do with Fletch as is hoped). Firstly, Ellie Weingardt who co-starred with Chevy in Bad Meat dropped me an e-mail suggesting we may well see this movie yet - here's the comments from Ellie:

"Hi there,
Just to let you know, there was a private screening of a rough cut of the film "Bad Meat". The audience roared with laughter. Chevy was hysterically funny.
Ellie"

A big thankyou to Ellie for letting us know this and hopefully this will lead to a full release of the film very soon. I also received a note from Dirk in Germany telling of his own Chevy Chase web-site. I will add to the Links page soon enough but for now click here (if you can read German). And finally, Memoirs Of An Invisible Man received it's Region 2 DVD release earlier this week. It includes a number of special features and is much better than people give it credit for - I actually like it a lot.
